No, a referral is not required since psychological services are not covered by OHIP. If you are a refugee with the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) healthcare benefits, then you will need a physician’s referral for psychological services.
We ask that appointments be canceled or rescheduled at least 2 business days in advance. If an appointment is canceled in less than 24 hours, please note that you will be invoiced for the full cost of the missed appointment.
Each therapy session is scheduled for 1 hour. Typically, sessions last 50 minutes, with the remaining time allocated for the clinician's preparation and administrative tasks.
The frequency and number of sessions vary for each individual. After your initial meeting, our clinician will recommend a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and concerns.
Yes, all psychological services are strictly confidential. This means that anything that our client(s) share within our sessions is both private and protected. We can only communicate your information to third parties with your written permission. By law, we will have to break confidentiality in some specific circumstances.
We can not prescribe medication. However, should medication be of interest, we can collaborate with physicians in the community.
Every individual’s mental health circumstance is unique and requires a tailored and thoughtful care plan. Typically, non-pharmaceutical approaches to mental health challenges (e.g. therapy) are used prior to considering medication. Sometimes, however, medications are helpful to enhance and support recovery. The decision to treat a mental health concern with medication is ultimately made by the client/family after extensive discussion with his/her therapist and consultation with a physician.
