Program Details

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects interaction with others, communication skills, learning abilities, and social-emotional behaviors.

This program will offer:

  • Evaluate for co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, or intellectual disabilities.

  • Psychoeducation provides detailed information about ASD to the individual and their family, including common characteristics, challenges, and strengths.

  • Discuss the importance of intervention and consistent support.

  • Collaborate with the individual and their family to set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.

  • Therapy will focus on areas such as communication, social skills, adaptive behaviors, and reducing challenging behaviors.

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques will reinforce positive behaviors and reduce challenging ones.

  • Strategies to offer positive behavior support to address the underlying causes of challenging behaviors.

  • Communication support will address communication challenges, including developing verbal skills, non-verbal communication, and alternative communication methods.

  • Social stories with visual and written aids help the individual understand social situations and appropriate responses.

  • Social skills techniques will enhance the ability to interact with peers, understand social cues, and develop friendships.

  • Role-playing to teach and practice social interactions.

  • Recognize and address sensory processing issues, fine motor skills, and activities of daily living.

  • Sensory integration techniques to help the individual manage sensory sensitivities.

  • CBT techniques will address anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges commonly associated with ASD.

  • Recognizing and managing emotions, developing coping strategies, and reducing rigid thinking patterns.

  • Educational support will offer collaboration with the individual's school for modifications as required to ensure that educational interventions are tailored to the individual's learning style and needs.

  • Provide training and support to family members to enhance their understanding of ASD and effective intervention strategies.

  • Discuss the participation in community activities and programs to promote social inclusion and independence.

  • Develop life skills such as self-care, household chores, and vocational training to prepare for adulthood.

  • Discuss sensory environment to adjust to the individual's environment to reduce sensory overload and create a more supportive setting.

  • Implement visual schedules and organizational aids to enhance predictability and reduce anxiety.

  • Yoga and guided meditation exercises to promote mindfulness, relaxation, and emotional regulation.

  • Regular monitoring and adjustment will require scheduling regular follow-up sessions to assess progress, review goals, and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

  • Discuss long-term plans for transitioning to adulthood, including post-secondary education, employment, and independent living.

  • Discuss continuity of care and support as the individual moves through different life stages.
